If you’re traveling to a new country, it can be stressful if you do not know what you may need on vacation. Packing is not something most people look forward to doing, but get excited, a new trip is in your near future! Here are five items that you should be sure to pack for your next trip to Europe.
Charger Adapter for Europe
If you’re from the U.S. like I am, you will need to pack a charger adapter in order to charge your phone or other devices. The outlet in Europe is different than the electrical outlet type in the United States. With an adapter block, you can use your typical cords to charge your phone, and the adapter block is inserted into the outlet in Europe. Here is a link if you need to buy an appropriate charger adapter from Amazon.
Passport
If you’re traveling from outside of the country, don’t forget your passport! This is an obvious item, but sometimes in the chaos of packing, the most essential items can be left behind.
Cash
I choose to always pack cash when I am traveling to a new country. There are still some places that only take cash, so it is best to have some on you. Also, if you have cash, you can find a place that will convert the currency for you. I have had to figure out an ATM system in Indonesia before, and it was a stressful process… The ATM was not easy to use and the prompts were only offered in their native language, so I recommend bringing cash along to save some of the hassle.
Secure Bag/Purse
Unfortunately, pickpocketing is common in Europe. Pay attention to those around you and be sure your bag is secure. I recommend getting a crossbody bag that zips and latches. I do not recommend getting a bag that has a clip like a fanny pack as the people pickpocketing can quickly unclip your bag and run. If it is cold, you can wear your crossbody bag underneath your coat to ensure nobody can take it. Wear your bag where you can always see it, and don’t hang it on your chair while eating or relaxing.
You don’t need to stress during your trip about pickpocketing but know safety tips to follow so that it doesn’t happen to you! I have seen people pickpocketing while in Europe, but I have never gotten anything stolen from me.
Versatile Clothing
I recommend packing layers as the weather can vary throughout the day. In Europe people dress a bit more professionally and not in as much activewear as you see in the United States. Depending on where you are visiting and what activities you have planned in Europe though, your list for which clothes to pack will vary. Regardless of where you are going, pack comfortable shoes. If you’re traveling for an active trip of sightseeing or exploring, you will surely get your steps in.
