St. Augustine is said to be the oldest city in the United States. This city is located on the northeast coast of Florida and makes for a great vacation destination. I have visited St. Augustine for a week for a spring break vacation, and I have also done day trips here. If you only have time for one day in St. Augustine, keep reading for some ideas of what to do.
Walk downtown
Walking the downtown area is a must! The cobblestone streets and Spanish colonial architecture makes for a unique experience. There are countless boutiques, restaurants, cafes, and breweries to explore.
See the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument
When you are in the downtown area and look out toward the water, you will see a giant fort. This is called the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. It was a fort built by the Spanish in order to defend the land. Take a walk around the fort and learn about the history of it.
Spend some time at the beach
St. Augustine Beach is a beautiful white sand beach. It is a wonderful place to relax and catch some rays.
Find a new restaurant
There are plenty of lovely restaurants that you will walk by downtown, but if you are interested in eating just outside of the main downtown area, The Conch House is my favorite restaurant. I have been here several times. The Conch House Marina Resort has a restaurant with views of the water and marina. There are fun palapas that you can eat under if you eat outside. You will be sure to see lots of pelicans!
Pick a tour or excursion
There are countless activities and excursions to choose from. Of course, there is only so much time with a one-day trip, but here are some ideas. There is a Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum, mini golf courses such as Anastasia Miniature Golf, and regular trolley tours or spooky ghost tours that could make your trip more memorable. Additionally, you can rent surfboards and go surfing at the beach, visit the Alligator Farm, or go to a distillery or winery. There is plenty to keep you entertained!
Conclusion
Regardless of how long you are able to spend in St. Augustine, it is worth the trip! If you make it to St. Augustine, I would love to hear your favorite activity in the comments! Cheers to visiting the oldest city in the U.S. and to making connections around the world. Check out the destinations tab on my website to find my other blog posts. Thanks for stopping by!
