If you are planning a trip to Spain, Seville is a great destination to visit. Seville is the capital of Andalusia and has a lot to offer. You can expect to find beautiful gardens, countless historical sights, delicious food, and lively cultural experiences such as flamenco shows. Seville is a beautiful city with plenty of opportunities for exploration where you can avoid a crazy city atmosphere. Seville is a laid-back location where you can experience a new culture in such an authentic way without the random distraction that other hustling cities bring.
Expect to see beautiful gardens…
There are countless lush gardens around Seville. Below is a list of some popular gardens to visit.
- Parque de María Luisa
- Parque de Los Principes
- Jardines del Real Alcázar
- Parque de Miraflores
- Jardines de la Cartuja
- Parque del Alamillo
Expect to find countless historical sights…
There are numerous historic buildings and monuments scattered around Seville. My favorite historical sight was Plaza de España which is free to visit. The architecture is incredible, and you can find benches and mosaics that line the plaza and represent all 52 Spanish provinces. There are horses with carriages around the city. If a romantic or fun carriage ride interests you, a lot of people ride in a carriage around the Plaza de España. Also, this plaza has little gondolas which you can take around the small canal. This may be a memorable item on your itinerary as well. I have included other popular sights to visit below as well.
- Plaza de España
- Royal Alcázar of Seville
- Catedral de Seville
- La Giralda
- Setas de Seville
- Archivo General de Indias
Expect to eat delicious food…
You can find traditional Spanish food all over. Of course, tapas are common in Spain, but I want to highlight a specific traditional dish – paella. I took a paella cooking class at the hostel I was staying at. It was such a fun experience. If you do not stay in a hostel, there are different companies that host paella cooking nights if this interests you. Paella is a classic rice dish that is cooked in a giant pan with spices, vegetables, and meat. Of course, you can make a vegetarian paella dish, but seafood or chicken paella dishes are common. I recommend trying this traditional dish on your trip!
Expect to find lively cultural experiences…
I love to learn about and experience new cultures. If you do too, Seville has a strong and beautiful culture. Flamenco shows are something that should be highlighted. Flamenco is an artform that is expressed through passion and emotional intensity. Watching a show is a great way to immerse yourself in the Spanish culture as they include traditional clothes, music, and dance. When I visited Seville, there was a group of people performing at the Plaza de España. There are also traditional flamenco shows that you can pay to see as well. I visited a flamenco bar while in Seville, but it was more geared toward tourists, so for the authentic cultural experience, I would recommend searching for a group at the Plaza de España or booking a ticket for a traditional show.
