Staying in a hostel in my twenties was something that I really wanted to do. It was a bucket list item that I was able to check off. I recently had the opportunity to stay in my first and then my second hostel while in Spain in March of 2023. If you have never stayed in a hostel before, this mini-post will inform you on what they are like. If you regularly stay in hostels and enjoy hearing individual reviews, I will tell you about my experience in Barcelona.
The first hostel that I ever stayed at was the Pars Tailor’s Hostel in Barcelona, Spain. This hostel is walking distance to most of the main attractions that the city offers. This was something that was a requirement for me when I was looking through hostel options on Hostelworld.
Pars Tailor’s hostel is a social hostel. This means that there are plenty of opportunities to meet fellow world travelers throughout your stay. The hostel staff plans activities for the travelers as well. Some of the activities take place in the hostel lobby while others involve the staff taking those who are interested out into town.
While I stayed here, I went to an event where the hostel staff bartended for us and had games out for us to meet people. The bar offered unlimited drinks for 10 euros for those who attended. Also, I went on two bar crawls where the staff took us to different bars and clubs. They got us into the clubs for free which is huge! Many hostels offer this, so keep this in mind when considering different accommodation options. Sometimes the staff cooks dinner for the travelers as well. Some hostels are just for people to relax while others encourage activities and socializing. I made fun new friends from all around the world, so if you are up for socializing, I completely recommend finding social hostels. Do it for the memories!
Many hostels offer different room options. Sometimes you can find private rooms, but shared dorm rooms are more common. These dorm rooms can be mixed (females and males), but I stayed in a females only dorm. I believe there were twelve beds in my room for this hostel.
The accommodation cost me about $30 per night after taxes. Clearly, hostels are a cheaper option for accommodation… That’s why they are popular among younger people. I would say that the majority of the people at this hostel were in their 20s or 30s while I was staying here.
Overall, I loved my experience! It was an exciting atmosphere with memorable activities. The staff was so friendly too. I recommend this hostel if you are searching for one in Barcelona. And if you have never stayed in a hostel, I encourage you to get out of your comfort zone to meet some new people. The accommodation isn’t as lavish necessarily if you share a room with other people, but numerous hostels are clean and modern. Getting to meet fellow travelers in an open and friendly environment will make your trip very memorable – that’s for certain!
