Free Activities in Jekyll Island

If you are looking for a beautiful and peaceful location to explore, Jekyll Island in Georgia is a wonderful place to consider. Jekyll Island is the perfect place to slow down and be in nature. With beautiful sights, beaches, and hiking trails, you can enjoy your visit on the island at a very low cost. Whether it’s a day trip, a quick weekend, or a week-long vacation, here are some free activity ideas for your visit to start filling up your travel itinerary.

Nature Trails

Whether you like to hike or bike, the island has plenty of trails for you! There are beach trails as well as trails around wetlands. Consider Sharktooth Beach Trail, Horton Pond trail, or the Jekyll Island Perimeter Loop for hiking. Jekyll Island Bike Trail has paved pathways, bridges, and boardwalks if you prefer to explore on wheels.

The Beaches

The beaches are a major draw for Jekyll Island. Specifically, Driftwood Beach is a very popular attraction. As may be expected from its name, the beach is filled with giant pieces of driftwood. The view is unlike anything I have ever seen before. Driftwood Beach is a popular spot for photographers, since it offers such a unique backdrop and landscape. The beach is great for walking and exploring, but the beach is still a beautiful spot to find some open sand and soak in the rays as well. In my opinion, Driftwood Beach is a must if you are visiting the island!

Jekyll Island Historic District

Take time to explore the Jekyll Island Historic District by foot. Hopefully you are visiting on a day with comfortable weather where you can leisurely walk around and appreciate the pretty architecture and landscape. The historic district is so quaint and peaceful, so it is the perfect spot for a morning walk.

Jekyll Island Beach Village

Jekyll Island Beach Village is a cute and small area with boutique shops and restaurants near the beach. This is the place to head to if you want to find a souvenir, indulge in a sweet treat, or find a restaurant to try. When I visited the island, we strolled through Beach Village and ended up eating at Wee Pub Beach which is an Irish pub and sports bar. St. Simons Island

When people explore Jekyll Island, they often head next door to St. Simons Island as well. Check out the St. Simons Island Lighthouse, relax on East Beach, see the fishing pier, and check out some of the popular monuments.
