As most people know, Savannah, Georgia is an iconic city to explore. It is the perfect destination to visit, because there are activities to entertain you and sights to see, but the popular vacation spot is not a tourist trap. If a trip to Savannah is in your near future, keep reading for some itinerary items to consider for your visit.
Coffee Shops

I don’t know about you, but on vacation, a delicious cup of coffee is a must to start my perfect morning. Savannah Coffee Roasters is a cool urban hangout spot that is just a short walk from the famous Forsyth Park. This coffee shop offers fancy pastries, delicious coffee, some outdoor seating, and classic sandwich and salad options.
If Savannah Coffee Roasters is not on your route, some other local coffee shops to consider include: Franklin’s, Origin Coffee Bar, Foxy Loxy Cafe, Asher + Rye Cafe, and Cup to Cup Cafe.
Farmers Market

If your trip allows you to explore Savannah on a Saturday, I highly recommend visiting Forsyth Farmers’ Market. I stumbled upon the event by accident during my visit, and was pleasantly surprised. I enjoy attending arts and farmers markets, and the Forsyth Farmers’ Market has been my favorite one yet. A farmers market located in a gigantic stunning park under beautiful oak trees within a historic district, I mean come on… That sounds like a perfect morning to me! There were plenty of locals, tourists, and a whole lot of happy dogs enjoying the exciting Saturday morning. The market runs on Saturdays from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm year-round.
Historic District

Savannah is sectioned off into several districts and neighborhoods, and each district offers something special. For example, the Victorian District boasts unique architecture and Forsyth Park while Starland District is the place to go if you enjoy thrifting or meandering through local art shops. Check out Visit Savannah’s page to see where every district is located and what each specific district offers.
Popular Parks

You have heard of Forsyth Park many times by now, and that is because it’s an iconic famous park. The fountain gathers locals and tourists alike. This park is the perfect place to lay out a blanket, people watch, have a picnic, and read a book. There are countless other parks to visit during your stay as well though. Daffin Park, Emmet Park, and Fort McAllister State Park are a couple other natural parks to have on your radar.
Riverwalk

For a nice waterfront stroll, head to River Street. Savannah’s waterfront section houses numerous restaurants with delicious southern cuisine, pretty views, and a famous statue. A couple of the riverfront restaurants include: The Cotton Exchange Tavern, Broken Keel, and Huey’s. During my stay, I tried a crab cake sandwich and fried green tomatoes from Huey’s which I recommend. The Waving Girl statue is a tribute to a woman named Florence Martus. I don’t want to spoil the history, so check it out for yourself in Savannah or choose to read the history behind this statue at this link. The statue is located in Morrell Park.
Iconic Activities

While a trip to Savannah is complete after eating some southern food and strolling through the peaceful parks and unique districts, perhaps you are in search of an iconic activity to further spice up your vacation. During my trip, my family and I boarded a 90-minute trolley ride through Old Town Trolley Tours. If your feet need a break or you want a quick adventure loaded with interesting historical facts about Savannah, the trolleys are a fun addition to the itinerary.
If you’re lucky, maybe a Savannah Bananas baseball game is in your future. If you haven’t heard of the Savannah Bananas, they are a baseball team that do much more than just play a standard baseball game. They perform with dances and song and emphasize fan participation. The Savannah Bananas have a viral presence on social media. Tickets are hard to come by and often get resold at hefty prices. If you secure tickets though, you are surely in for a memorable and fun experience!
Day Trip

If you are visiting Savannah for a long weekend or a week, you may be interested in taking a day trip to a nearby town. During my vacation, I took a day trip to Tybee Island. It is just a 30 minute drive to Tybee Island from Savannah. Tybee Island has beautiful beaches, a lighthouse that you can climb up, a fort to explore, souvenir shops, and restaurants to enjoy.
Conclusion
Savannah is a unique and stunning destination. I have been to Savannah twice so far and hope to visit several more times for weekend getaways. If you have been to Savannah, comment your trip highlights and recommendations below.
